A Little History
Before the Second World War, the nation remained predominantly rural, with the populace residing in vast regions. Shoppers could purchase nearly anything from prominent "catalog houses" such as Sears, Montgomery Ward, and Spiegel, including musical instruments. Silvertone served as the "musical" brand for Sears, Roebuck & Company; its instruments and amplifiers were crafted by a variety of companies, including Danelectro, Valco, Harmony, Thomas, Kay, and Teisco.
Following years of scarcity during the war, the late 1940s saw the introduction of various Silvertone-branded acoustic guitars. These affordable guitars gained popularity among aspiring musicians due to their widespread availability in Sears stores and catalogs.
One notable model was the Kay-built 712, which was the first in a series of elegant, well-crafted acoustic and electric guitars known as the "Aristocrat". The 712 set the standard for all subsequent Aristocrat models.
